Science Visitor- Tuesday 14th March, 2017
Today a special Science visitor came to visit Year 1 who conducted an experiment with the children.
She poured lemonade into the children’s cups and added raisins to see whether they sink or float. Everybody had very peculiar results as some raisins sank and some floated to the surface of the liquid.
The children did a funny dance to make the raisins rise to the top. This worked for some of the glasses as the motion of the dancing caused the floor to vibrate, however some raisins remained sunken.
Ava explains that she feels the bubbles are helping some of the raisins travel to the top which is why some have not come up. The Scientist was impressed with Ava’s prediction and the children continued dancing or shaking the cups to allow the bubbles to collect under the raisins and bring them to the surface of the cup.
